A museum-worthy collector's item with exceptional banding from the Congolese Copper Belt. This solid malachite specimen displays the characteristic concentric rings in all shades of green – from delicate mint green to vibrant emerald green and deep forest green. The perfectly preserved surface with its "eye" patterns makes every viewing a mesmerizing experience. Weighing 830 grams and measuring 15 cm in width, it is an imposing statement piece for discerning collectors.
MINERALOGICAL FEATURES:
Spectacular banding
The concentric bands are formed by the rhythmic crystallization of copper carbonate in cavities within copper-bearing rocks. Each layer documents a phase of mineral formation – made visible by different shades of green and textures. The “eye” patterns (peacock-eye malachite) with their circular structures are particularly sought after by collectors and only form under specific geological conditions.
Color intensity and contrast
Congolese malachite is renowned worldwide for its unparalleled color saturation. This specimen showcases the full spectrum: from light, almost turquoise tones to vibrant grass green and dark green accents. The combination with the dark, rough back enhances the visual impact of the polished front.
