Genesis – Obsidian Composition

A resin composition that translates the process of geological formation into abstract form. Shungite, rock crystal, quartz, and gold leaf combine with the dominant element obsidian – a volcanic glass formed by the rapid cooling of lava – on a 30 × 40 cm surface (5 cm deep).

The work employs strong contrasts: Deep black obsidian fragments meet golden accents and transparent quartz. The three-dimensional depth of 5 cm creates a sculptural quality that transcends flat painting. Multi-layered resin pours produce organic swirls reminiscent of magmatic processes and tectonic movements.

The title “Genesis” refers to origin and beginning – a reference to the volcanic processes that create obsidian and to the artistic transformation of raw minerals into composed form. It has no symbolic meaning, but rather a visualization of geological origins.
