A monumental collector's item from the renowned Kütahya region of Turkey. This imposing 5-kilogram, 26-centimeter-long rock crystal specimen displays hundreds of perfectly formed crystals on a dark matrix, interspersed with characteristic pistachio-green epidote. The combination of clear, lustrous quartz crystals, olive-green epidote inclusions, and the contrasting dark matrix creates a dramatic visual effect. A statement piece that impresses with its size and geological complexity.
MINERALOGICAL FEATURES:
Crystal-rich formation
Hundreds of individual rock crystal points of varying sizes are scattered across the entire surface – from tiny 5mm crystals to impressive 3cm double terminations. The crystals exhibit typical hexagonal quartz shapes with well-defined faces and a vitreous luster. Particularly noteworthy are the larger, freestanding crystals at the top of the specimen, which display perfect transparency and sharp edges.
Epidote penetration
The characteristic feature of Turkish rock crystals from Kütahya is the presence of pistachio-green to olive-green epidote throughout the matrix, sometimes even appearing as inclusions within the quartz crystals themselves. This mineral paragenesis is typical of metamorphic rocks and reflects the geological history of the region – the crystals grew in cavities while epidote crystallized from calcium- and iron-rich solutions.
Matrix contrast
The dark matrix consists of metamorphic rock and forms a dramatic contrast to the clear crystals and green epidote nests. The rough, untreated back reveals the natural fracture surface, authentically showcasing its geological origin.
Three-dimensional structure
The step is not flat, but three-dimensional – crystals grow in different directions, creating depth and enabling fascinating plays of light. Depending on the viewing angle and the incidence of light, the reflections and transparency effects change.
LOCATION: KÜTAHYA REGION, WEST TURKEY
Kütahya is one of Turkey's most important mineral regions and is known worldwide for its exceptional rock crystal specimens accompanied by epidote. This geological formation was created by metamorphic processes in which heat and pressure formed cavities where quartz crystals could grow over millions of years. The characteristic green epidote coloration is a hallmark of this region and makes Turkish specimens particularly sought after by collectors.
